Today’s iPhone 365 Project post is all about experimentation. I thought I would try an indoor, low-light photo to see how well the iPhone handles noise. So, I grabbed my son’s remote controlled WALL-E and placed it in the doorway to his bedroom. I turned off the light in his room to eliminate any backlighting and used an incandescent light in an adjacent room to side light WALL-E to give a more grundgey look.
I like the way the shot turned out, but you can clearly see noise in the photo … even after it has been downsized! The only thing I could have done to minimize the noise was to use more light; however, that would have killed the effect I was going for. Of course, I could have used bright lights to light the scene exactly as I wanted and then used Photoshop to process it in post. But, I feel that’s contradictory to reasons I had for choosing to use the iPhone in the first place!
What do you think?

Paul,
Hey there! Love this project you are doing…so cool. Just wanted to ask where you managed to get the WALL-E? My Husband has wanted one for our little boy for some time now.
Hope your 2010 is going well. I am having some health issues, but as soon as I can get a handle on them, I want to set something up for Cameron’s outdoor session. I think I have the perfect location and I have been thinking about this since we last communicated. He adores trains, so I was thinking Greenfield Village would be awesome!
I love this project so much! I will definitely spread the word…
