Day 25: Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan

by Paul Manoian on January 25, 2010

I was in downtown Detroit today and headed over to Eastern Market for lunch.  While out I stopped by Saint Joeseph Catholic Church which was less than a mile away.  I am somewhat fascinated by its architecture and always wanted to see it up close.

St. Joseph Catholic Church is a historic German Gothic church was founded in 1855.  It is a daughter parish of St. Mary’s in the Greektown area of Detroit, Michigan and is the only church in the Detroit  parishes that still maintains a German liturgy.

I’m amazed and all of the incredible architecture Detroit has to offer considering it is a city is such terrible decline.  It is an extremely beautiful building and I would love to see the inside.

One of Detroit’s fine architectural treasures. Thank you for showcasing this remarkable and historic structure. It looks well cared for and in excellent condition. Beautiful composition.

Janet, thanks! I’ve really been trying to find “cool shots” in ordinary objects just by shooting from a different perspective.
