Day 7: Merry (Orthodox) Christmas

by Paul Manoian on January 7, 2010

While most people in the United States know Christmas to be on December 25th, the Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 7th, based on the Gregorian calendar. This date actually works works out to be December 25th on the Julian calendar. So, given it’s Christmas again, I thought it would be fitting to find a Christmas tree to photograph.

I found a large 15′ tree set up outside late this afternoon on my drive home as the snow was falling. The tree and all the large presents around the base had lights on them; unfortunately, they are only on when the sky is dark. There was also quite a bit of snow in the air, so I’m lucky no blurry white marks showed up in the photo. I processed it in Photoshop to give it a vintage type look and really like how it turned out. What do you think?

Last month on my main photography blog, I wrote an article on how to photograph a Christmas tree during Christmas Eve. Were you able to apply any of my tips?
