Day 48: Simple Table Lamp

by Paul Manoian on February 17, 2010

Today was long and drawn out. I’m still stunned by all the events that occurred. This is one of those days where I really wish I had captured a photo early. Yet, against my own advice, I left today’s photo for the last thing this evening.

This was one of those days where the light at the end of the tunnel couldn’t come quick enough. For that reason alone, I chose to photograph a lamp. But, to give it more ambiance, I chose to photograph it lit in a dark room and exposed the image for a darker portion of the lamp. This caused the portion under the lamp shade to overexpose giving it a nice fade-to-white effect.

I really like the contrast of the overexposed shade at the top of the photo to the underexposed base. Combined with the architectural elements of the lamp, the final effect is quite pleasing to the eye.

It might not have been inspired by my birthday, but I like it.
