You mean you didn’t know you could get your senior pictures in the snow this winter?!  Snow joke!  It’s true!!  We shoot senior portraits all year long!

Senior Portraits in the Snow

We posted our first sneak peek of senior pictures in the snow almost two years ago!  Since then, we’ve been inundated with requests for outdoor winter photography sessions.  Yes, it’s cold.  But, it’s definitely worth it since some of the best senior pictures are taken when there’s white stuff covering the ground and sticking to the trees.  Bring hats, scarves, ear muffs, gloves and a couple of those small hand warmer packets to keep in your pockets.  If it’s really cold, you can even stuff the hand warmers into your gloves to keep them nice and toasty.

To take your senior portraits session to the next level this winter and bring your snowboard or skis along with your half pipe or downhill gear including your coat, snow pants and mask!  Even better, depending on when we schedule your session, we may even be able to hold it at a local ski resort like Alpine Valley, Mt. Brighton, Pine Knob or even Mt. Holly!  Yes, the biggest hills/mountains are up north, but nobody will be able to tell when we photograph you in mid air.  The terrain park at Mt. Brighton would be a great backdrop for your session too!

It’s November already?  REALLY?!

I can’t believe how time has flown this year.  It seems like the whirlwind caused by all the senior portraits has barely subsided and already I’m getting calls to book family portrait sessions for this season’s Christmas cards!

Since many people are just looking for a professional family portrait to use on a greeting card, I will be offering a couple of special mini family portrait sessions this year.  Rather than scheduling full 1-2 hour family portrait sessions that would normally provide 50-80 proofs to choose from, these will be 30 minute mini sessions scheduled back to back that would provide 10-15  proofs. along with (1) free 8×10 and (2) free 5×7 professional prints of your favorite proof!  I am hosting these sessions at a couple of beautiful locations this fall.  If you are interested in a session for your holiday card this year, please let me know as soon as possible since available days are booking fast!

Senior Pictures in Metro Detroit, Michigan are not what they used to be.  Unfortunately, many students (and parents) have not realized that Lifestyle Senior Photography has evolved far beyond indoor photography chains and green screens (Yup. Green screens.  Just like the weatherman!).  In fact, if you are attending a large public school like those throughout Metro Detroit, the options are limitless.  Literally!  Having to “settle” is a thing of the past.  CHOOSE to LOVE your Senior Portraits!

Thousands of high school seniors in Metro Detroit flock to chain photography studios that their school district contract for their annual yearbooks each year.  As a result, seniors end up sitting in front of mottled backdrops or, worse, behind cheesy 3 foot tall letters that spell S-E-N-I-O-R.  The end result is each student receives the same boring portraits as everyone else simply because the chain studios all are using the same lighting, the same backgrounds, the same posing stands and given the same directions like “Tilt your head to the right”, “Lift your chin up”, “Move your hand to your left” and … “Look at the camera”.

Maternity portraits are definitely one of my favorite session types as a professional photographer.  Nothing can compare to the love and hope that is represented with each pregnancy portrait session.

I have worked with a lot of couples for their maternity session and have found the best results come when the pregnancy session is held in their own home. On-location maternity photography sessions definitely seem to provide the mother with the most comfortable setting possible. Besides, we all know that nobody is happy if mom isn’t happy, right?

Phew! What a year! I had the opportunity to work with dozens of kids throughout 2010 for various photography sessions including everything from modeling to advertisements to families. The honors for my last child portrait session in 2010 go to 18 month old Brennan.

I spent an hour with Brennan and his mom in front of their Christmas tree and captured some great images for their family. I’m going through their proofs in preparation for their online proofing gallery and posted a couple of my favorites below.
