Wedding photography is one of the reasons I became a professional wedding photographer.  I absolutely love being able to capture the emotion of the wedding day for the bride and groom, along with their future generations, can cherish them forever.

I recently photographed Stephanie and Glen for the engagement portrait session and an amazing outdoor location.  Now, almost 2 months later, I have the honor of photographing them for their wedding.  It was an beautiful event and the decorations were absolutely gorgeous!

There is still a lot of work for me to do processing all of the proofs of their wedding.  But, I know they’re anxious to see their pictures.  I love how they are turning out and selected a few as a sneak peek below.

Are you recently engaged?  If so, don’t forget to schedule your wedding engagement portraits session!

With all of the bustle during the wedding planning, it is important to schedule a photography session for engagement portraits as soon as possible since you will want to use the engagement photos for number of items including save the date cards, announcement cards and bridal shower invitations.  

One of the most popular uses for an engagement portrait is to mat a professional 16×20 or 16×24 print with a nice bevel-cut 4″ (or wider!) white mat and display it next to the wedding guest book at the ceremony and reception on an easel and ask the wedding guests to sign it!  It makes a great reminder of the Big Day and is beautiful when hung on a wall at home.  Couple often look back years later at the words of encouragement and love that friends and family left for them!

My most recent engagement portraits session with with Stephanie and Glen.  We met first thing in the morning at a cut stone cottage and captured some amazing images for them.  I’m still going through their proofs but selected a couple for the sneak peek below.  I really love the way they turned out.  My favorites so far are of the two of them sitting at the table together or the one of her standing by herself.  The stones look great with the colors in her dress don’t you think?

Once of the best things about being a wedding photographer, is the opportunity to create beautiful images for the Bride that their families will enjoy for generations to come!   However, caught in the rush of planning for the wedding day, too many couples forget to take time to capture a formal bridal portrait with their wedding photographer.

Considering the amount of time and planning that goes into selecting the perfect gown, more couples should choose to schedule a bride portrait session.  I’m not referring to the “formal portraits” that the wedding photographer often takes of the wedding party in between the wedding ceremony and reception.  You see, there really isn’t time in between the wedding and ceremony to capture a true portrait.  I mean, real portraiture.  The type of portrait you would consider to be a piece of art to hang on your wall.  I’m speaking specifically of a dedicated 1 to 2 hour portrait session of just the Bride where time and attention can be given to every detail.

For couples that are interested in a bride portrait session, I recommend scheduling one around the time when she is having her last gown fitting a week of so before the wedding day.  Also, since I always recommend scheduling a test run with the hair stylist and makeup artist, it works out best when it can occur around the same time as the final fitting.  This allows for a portrait session in her gown along with the hair and makeup as it will look on the actual wedding day.  As a professional wedding photographer, I have found that this works best since the week before the wedding is hectic enough as it is and this ensures that separate hair stylist and makeup artist are not needed for the formal bridal portrait session.  Unfortunately, many brides tell me that their wedding photographer will not schedule a separate portrait session with them.

I recently posted a couple of photos from Patty and Darrick’s engagement session. I can’t believe it, but their wedding has now come and gone!  They did an excellent job planning the outdoor event and everything was beautiful.  There’s nothing quite like shooting a Michigan wedding portraits on a sunny first day of summer.  I am still going through their 2,000 proofs and will definitely post some here.

I love wedding photography.  I love being a key part of a young couple’s once-in-a-lifetime day.  I love the thrill of the event and the whoosh of the day.  I love photographing the special event and capturing photojournalistic candids.  I love the artistic freedom it affords me as a professional wedding photographer.
