I have run a few child photography contests this past year in southeast Michigan. As a child photographer, I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with a variety of children and families that I may not have had otherwise.
I spent this evening reviewing the nominations that have been submitted since the current “Full of Life” contest was announced. There’s still 1 week left for parents to nominate their child age 6-12, but I can already tell this contest is going to be the toughest yet.
For some reason, in my previous “Kids Being Kids” contest for children ages 1-6, all of the nominees were girls. However, about half of the nominations are for boys this time. In addition, the nominees have been a good mix of children that I have photographed in the past versus new clients. Perhaps most encouraging, a large number of nominees have come as a result of my own nomination for Best Portrait Photography by WDIV Detroit 4, the local NBC affiliate.
I have been absolutely blown away by the gracious and generous comments left on the WDIV website by my clients. It’s one thing to be nominated, but it’s entirely another to be voted the best! I took a look at the standings and I’m happy to say I’m still in the running, but winning will take a lot of votes. If I am ultimately voted #1, I will donate a free sitting to a silent auction to make it a WIN-WIN situation! 🙂 So, in case you haven’t already done so, please take a minute and place a vote!
More importantly, if you know any kids ages 6-12 that display extraordinary personality and character, please nominate them for my current “Full of Life” child photography contest! Two finalists will receive a free on-location (within 30 miles of Livonia, MI) portrait session and an 8×10 print. Each finalist family will be able to select one image to put head-to-head in an online vote for the grand prize, a complimentary 1 year membership in the V.I.P. Portrait Program (as well as the satisfaction of having won, of course!) that will give them free sitting fees for an entire year for their immediate family.
If they inspire you, please fill out the nomination form. If you nominate someone else’s child and they are selected as the winner, you will receive a $25 Print Credit that can be used toward prints from a future portrait session! You have until August 15, 2009 to submit your entry. Entrants will receive additional information via email on how to submit photos.
