I love Detroit and, as a Detroit photographer, I love it when opportunities come along to schedule photography sessions Downtown. That’s why I was so excited when Darian’s mom said that wanted to do a session around the abandoned Michigan Central Station in downtown Detroit in the Corktown district.
The magnificent Michigan Central Station (aka MCS) was built in 1912-1913 for the Michigan Central Railroad. It was the hub for all of Detroit’s passenger rail travel from 1913 all the way up until January 6, 1988 when Amtrak ended passenger service and shuttered the doors. Since then, it has been featured in a number of movies including Transformers as well as a number of television shows. Once you see it, you can see why it is so popular. The building is absolutely ominous and the architecture is stunning.
It was the perfect location for Darian’s senior picture session and we utilized much of the surrounding area. I’m still finishing up all of her proofs and still have a day or two to complete her online proof gallery. But, I know she is anxious to see the images, so I selected a number of my favorites and included them below.
