Cozy, Real, and Unapologetically Them#
Farmington Engagement Portraits with Kamrin and Alex
Not every engagement session needs sweeping landscapes, dramatic outfits, or a sunset timeline planned down to the minute.
Sometimes, the most meaningful portraits happen exactly where real life already exists.
Kamrin and Alex invited me into their home in Farmington, Michigan for an engagement session that was never about recreating what everyone else is doing. Kamrin came in with a clear Pinterest board and a strong vision. She wasn’t looking for another outdoor engagement shoot or anything overly styled. She wanted something lived-in, cozy, and honest. The kind of images that actually feel like their relationship.
Mission accepted.
From the moment I walked in, it was obvious this session was about comfort and connection. Soft window light. Neutral tones. Bare feet. Laughter that didn’t feel staged because it wasn’t. This was real life, just documented intentionally.
Why At-Home Engagement Portraits Hit Different#
There’s a quiet confidence that comes from choosing to do engagement portraits at home. You are not performing. You are not trying to fit into a mold. You are simply showing up as yourselves.
Kamrin and Alex leaned into that completely.
We spent time on the couch, in the kitchen, wrapped in blankets, and tucked into corners of the house that already held meaning. No rushing. No pressure. Just space to exist together.
This is exactly why lifestyle engagement portraits resonate so deeply. They freeze a season of life that disappears quickly. The engagement period before the guest lists, before the seating charts, before everything turns into logistics.
You do not need a wedding date on the calendar to justify documenting this chapter.

Yes, the Pets Are Part of the Story#
If you live together, your pets are not an accessory. They are family.
Ypsi, their dog, fully understood the assignment. Equal parts curious and unimpressed, with a face that deserves its own close-up. Crumb, the cat, brought the perfect dose of quiet chaos and softness to the session. Including pets in engagement portraits instantly grounds the images in reality and adds layers of personality you simply cannot fake.
These moments matter. Years from now, these photos will feel even more valuable because they capture exactly who shared this space with them during this season.
Engagement Portraits That Stand on Their Own#
Here’s something worth saying out loud.
You do not need to book your wedding photographer to book engagement portraits. You do not even need a wedding date. Engagement photos are not a prerequisite. They are a celebration of a relationship exactly as it exists right now.
This Farmington engagement session proves that beautifully.
Whether couples end up working with me for their wedding or not, these sessions still matter. They tell a story. They hold emotional weight. They deserve intention.
And for couples who are still early in the planning process, sessions like this also show what it feels like to be photographed without pressure. No timelines. No expectations. Just trust and connection.
That experience is often what leads couples back when it is time to talk about wedding photography.
