Sneak Peek: Domonic’s Record Store Senior Pictures in Detroit

Some senior sessions are cool. Others are iconic. Domonic’s senior pictures with vinyl records definitely fall into that second category.

Domonic is a senior at Franklin High School in Livonia, MI, and right from the start, he knew he didn’t want a typical backdrop for his senior portraits. He’s a drummer in a band, passionate about music, and completely hooked on vinyl. So we built his session around a dream location: Peoples Records in Eastern Market.

Now here’s the thing. Peoples Records does not allow photography sessions. This session was only possible because we had special permission. I want to personally thank the staff at Peoples Vinyl for allowing us to shoot inside their amazing space. It was a rare opportunity. If you’re thinking about doing your own session there, please know that photography is not permitted unless you’ve arranged something directly with the store.

Inside, the space felt like it was made for Domonic. Surrounded by stacks of albums, rows of wooden bins, and walls covered in vintage portraits, he flipped through records and smiled while cueing up tracks on a turntable. He even brought his drumsticks for a few fun portraits that pulled everything together. You could tell this wasn’t just a photo session. It was personal.

These record store senior pictures gave us so much to work with. The environment was rich with detail and character. And the best part? It all reflected Domonic’s love of music and vinyl records in a way that felt real.

After finishing up at Peoples Vinyl, we headed outside to explore a few spots in downtown Detroit. Eastern Market has no shortage of amazing graffiti, and we made time to hit one of the most colorful murals in the area. Even though the record store was the highlight, it was fun to balance the session with a few urban textures to round out the look.

Sessions like this are what senior pictures should be. They should show off what makes someone unique, not just pose them in a random spot. Domonic’s love for vinyl and live music came through in every single shot.
