I couldn’t have asked for a better morning on the course for Colin’s senior pictures session. As a senior at Novi High School, Colin wanted to include something that felt true to him, and the golf course was the perfect choice. We met at Golden Fox Golf Course, an upscale links-style 18-hole championship course in Plymouth designed by Arthur Hills, and started his session right at sunrise. The soft morning light and a bit of mist over the greens made it feel like we had the whole place to ourselves.
Golden Fox is an incredible backdrop for golf senior pictures, especially during golden hour. The way the early sunlight hits the fairways and highlights the texture of the grass gives the photos a calm, cinematic feel. We started with action shots of Colin on the tee, capturing the focus and movement that make golf such a mental and technical sport. Watching him line up each drive with that early-morning stillness around him created some of my favorite moments from the entire session.
As the sun came up, the light shifted to that perfect golden tone that photographers dream of. The course started to glow, and it brought out the rich greens and warm tones in the background. Those shots of Colin mid-swing and framed by the rising sun show just how much the right light can completely change a scene. Golden hour sessions like this one add a sense of energy and warmth that really bring the images to life.
We mixed in some more relaxed portraits, too. Colin brought both his Novi golf team shirt and a classic polo, so we were able to capture a range of looks from serious athlete to laid-back senior portraits. I especially like the shots with his driver slung over his shoulder and the ones of him walking down the fairway with his bag. Those quieter moments help tell the story of who he is both on and off the course.
Photographing golfers is always a creative challenge because you want to capture not just the action, but the rhythm and focus of the game. It’s part sport, part art form. The natural lines of the fairways, the symmetry of the greens, and the way the light moves across the landscape all come together to create something special. Colin’s session reminded me why golf senior pictures can be some of the most dynamic and visually interesting sessions of the year.
