Tyson is a senior at Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, and he knew from day one that he wanted a Detroit session. The city fit him perfectly. He has a relaxed and confident presence, and Detroit’s mix of glass towers, marble, murals, and old architecture gave every stop on our route a completely different feel.

We began the morning around the Renaissance Center, where the light was soft and even. That area is always a strong starting point because it mixes modern lines with a true downtown vibe. Tyson eased into the session right away, and the tall reflective towers helped create a clean, bold backdrop without taking attention away from him.

His mom had one special request for the session. She wanted at least one portrait with steam rising from a manhole cover, so during our walk between locations, we stayed alert for the right opportunity. When we found it, the timing lined up perfectly. The steam added energy to the frame, and Tyson looked completely at ease in the middle of the scene.
