How Your Child Can Get the Best Kids Headshots
Headshots are an essential part of any child’s portfolio, whether they’re aspiring actors, models, or just want to have a great photo to show off. Getting the perfect headshot is a process that requires some preparation and planning. Here are some tips on how to get the best kids headshots for your child like those in our kids headshots portfolio.
Choose the Right Photographer
The first step in ensuring your child gets the best headshots is to find the right photographer. Look for someone who specializes in children’s photography and has experience working with kids. Better yet, find a photographer that has kids of their own with personal acting or modeling experience. Of course, it’s also important to look at their portfolio and make sure you like their style of photography before booking a session.
Note: Paul has 2 kids as well as theatre acting experience including performances at the Detroit Opera House. He was also previously President of the Board at Livonia Community Theatre. He definitely knows both kids and acting. 🙂
Prepare Your Child
Once you’ve chosen a photographer, it’s time to prepare your child for the shoot to help ensure they get the best kids headshots possible. Talk to them about what kind of photos you’d like them to take and why it’s important to get good kids headshots. This is a great opportunity to begin teaching them what it means to be professional. Make sure they understand that they should be serious and not be silly during the session, as this can make them look too young or unprofessional in their photos. You can also practice posing with them so they know what kind of poses look best in photos.
Pick Out Clothing
Solid colors usually work best for kids headshots, as patterns can be distracting in photos. Choose clothing that fits well and is comfortable for your child, as this will help them feel more at ease during the shoot. Avoid clothing with distracting logos, words, or large designs, as these can take away from their face in photos. If possible, bring several different outfits so you have options when it comes time to take pictures.
Create an Atmosphere That Is Relaxed
It’s important that your child feels relaxed during their headshot session so they can look natural in their photos. This cannot be stressed enough and is largely on the photographer to ensure everything stays relaxed. Make sure there is plenty of time before and after the session so your child doesn’t feel rushed or pressured into taking pictures quickly. You can also bring snacks or toys for them to play with between shots if they are young. This will help keep them calm and focused on taking great pictures!
Hopefully these tips have helped you learn how your child can get the best kids headshots and help them stand out from the crowd with casting agencies.
