Sneak Peek: Grosse Pointe Family Portraits at Patterson Park
There’s something special about summer along Lake St. Clair, and Patterson Park in Grosse Pointe makes the most of it. It was the perfect spot for Joanna’s recent session with her family and it’s one of my new favorite gems for Grosse Pointe family portraits.
Tucked at the foot of Three Mile Drive and Essex, Patterson Park offers a beautiful mix of landscaped green space and waterfront views. The real highlight is the George H. Helm Boardwalk, built in 1993, which runs along the shoreline. Whether you visit in summer or winter, the views from this stretch of boardwalk are stunning. The lamp-lined path, colorful flowerbeds, and soft light make it feel like a postcard.
Joanna’s session was a true celebration of family, summer, and connection. Her twin boys were full of energy and laughter, and I loved capturing the way they interacted with each other. They had that perfect mix of best friends and playful competition that only twins can pull off. From big smiles and goofy hugs to quiet moments looking out over the lake, we caught so many great shots in such a short time.
One of my favorite things about Patterson Park is how much variety it offers for portraits. We were able to use the wooden bridge, floral backdrops, and open lake views, all within walking distance. It’s a spot that works beautifully for families with younger kids, especially when the weather is warm and the breeze is coming off the water.
