When Autumn and Gerard started planning their engagement portraits, they had a very specific vision in mind. They wanted something elegant. Something glamorous. Something that felt timeless rather than trendy.
Most importantly, they wanted engagement portraits that reflected their style as a couple.
After discussing their ideas, I suggested two iconic Detroit locations that perfectly matched the luxury aesthetic they were looking for. We began their session at the Detroit Institute of Arts, where the stunning architecture provided the perfect backdrop for the first half of their engagement portrait experience. We completed their session with engagement portraits at the Fisher Building.
The moment they stepped out in formal black attire, I knew we were about to create something special.
I Cannot Recommend Paul Enough
I cannot recommend Paul enough! From the very beginning, he instantly understood the vision we had for our engagement sessions photos and brought it to life even better than I imagined. His creativity, professionalism, and attention to detail made the entire experience feel effortless and enjoyable.
What really stood out was how much time and care he put into every shot. He provided honest feedback and guidance throughout the session to make sure we look our best and captured perfect moments. It never felt rushed. Paul was genuinely invested in creating beautiful images that that we would love forever.
If you’re looking for a photographer who truly listens, understands your vision, and goes above and beyond to deliver exceptional results, Paul is the one. We are so grateful for this experience.

Why the Detroit Institute of Arts Is Perfect for Engagement Pictures
The Detroit Institute of Arts has long been one of my favorite locations for engagement portraits in Detroit.
The grand columns, detailed stonework, dramatic staircases, and historic architecture create a setting that feels both sophisticated and romantic. It offers a level of elegance that is difficult to find anywhere else in the city.
For couples who want engagement pictures that feel elevated and refined, the DIA delivers an incredible variety of backgrounds while maintaining a cohesive visual style throughout the session.
Autumn and Gerard's wardrobe choices complemented the location perfectly.
Her stunning black gown featured beautiful sparkle details that caught the light throughout the morning. Gerard's classic tuxedo added a timeless look that worked seamlessly with the architecture surrounding them.
Together, they looked like they belonged on the cover of a bridal magazine.
A Vision Brought to Life
One of my favorite parts of this session was how intentional every detail felt.
Autumn and Gerard came into the session with a clear vision for the final images. They weren't looking for casual engagement photos in a park or a simple walk through downtown Detroit. They wanted portraits that felt luxurious and unforgettable.
The Detroit Institute of Arts gave us exactly that. At the same time, what truly made these images stand out wasn't the location. It was the connection between them.
Throughout the session, they were constantly laughing together, exchanging glances, and completely focused on each other. Those genuine moments created some of my favorite photographs of the day and balanced the dramatic architecture with authentic emotion.
Formal Engagement Portraits That Feel Timeless
One of the biggest advantages of choosing a location like the DIA is that the images will never feel dated. Trends come and go. Popular locations change. Editing styles evolve. But, classic architecture and genuine connection never go out of style.
Years from now, these photographs will still feel elegant and relevant because they focus on timeless elements rather than passing trends.
For couples planning a wedding and looking for engagement portraits that feel sophisticated, the Detroit Institute of Arts remains one of the best locations in southeast Michigan.
Autumn and Gerard's session is a perfect example of why.
More Detroit Luxury Coming Soon
The Detroit Institute of Arts was only the first stop of their engagement portrait session.
After creating these stunning images, we headed to another one of Detroit's architectural treasures for a completely different look and feel. The second half of their session took place inside the iconic Fisher Building, where dramatic Art Deco details, marble surfaces, and golden accents elevated the luxury vibe even further.
I'll be sharing those images in a separate sneak peek soon.
For now, I'm excited to share some favorites from Autumn and Gerard's Detroit Institute of Arts engagement pictures. Their August wedding is right around the corner, and if these portraits are any indication, it's going to be an incredible celebration.
