As a Detroit model headshot photographer, I have the opportunity to work with a large number of established as well as up-and-coming models through the Metro Detroit region. It has been a busy year working on everything from model head shots to model comp cards and everything in between throughout the Detroit and southeast Michigan area. So busy, that I’m far behind in writing blog posts and I need to catch up.
One on my favorite model sessions was with Jackie! With the recent Michigan tax incentives for companies to film and produce movies within the state, she has had an increasing number of opportunities for acting roles in productions. There’s no wondering why after you meet her, too!
I posted a shot from our model session below. It was taken while we were adjusting the studio lighting for her model headshot session for Miss Michigan. I have to say that she is beautiful and it would be difficult for her to have a bad photo taken. Second, she’s an experienced pro and she knew exactly what to do get a great shot!
For her model headshots, I did not want an “evenly lit” shot that a ring flash would normally provide. I preferred smooth, flattering lighting that still provides a few subtle shadows. You can tell by the catch lights in her eyes that I used two main light sources. A catch light is a photography term used to describe the highlight in a subject’s eye as the result of a light source. It is often an artifact of the lighting setup. In this case, I captured her shots using only two soft boxes (in addition to the lights on the background), a large one to her right and a much smaller one to her left. The end result is absolutely gorgeous!
If you are a model in the Metro Detroit area interested in updating your model headshots or comp cards, I would love to have the opportunity to consult with you for a modeling photography session. Please contact me online or call 313-883-9500.
