As a model and fitness photographer in Detroit, MI, I have the opportunity to work with incredibly talented individuals across southeast Michigan and the entire Midwest region. But, every once in a while, someone contacts me for a photo shoot that takes those to the extreme. Claire recently called me to do a fitness photo shoot to capture some images for a couple of fitness magazines she is going to be in. That was the easy part – we simply headed to a local gym during off peak hours and captured a ton of images that can be used. You see, she is also a professional aerialist.
We are actually planning a large photo shoot in 2015, but wanted to know what challenges we would face before taking things to a larger scale. So, we took things down a notch and experimented a bit. The “proof of concept” images turned out so great, I had to post some of them to share! Given our very limited working space, we focused on wraps and locks and were not able to shoot any drops. Be sure to check out some of amazing aerial hoop photographs we shot as well!
SAFETY NOTICE: To say the moves shown in the images below “require strength” is an understatement. They require tremendous amounts of shoulder, back, core and grip strength! Don’t try these unless you are under the direct supervision of an experienced instructor. As they say … the fall won’t kill you … it’s the sudden stop when you hit the floor that will!
If you are an aerialist or other circus arts professional, I would love to hear from you! Whether you interested in expanding your portfolio or simply to discuss potential photo shoot concepts, please feel free to contact me online or call 313-883-9500. I can’t wait to hear from you!
