For most people, March 13 is just another day. But, to everyone living in and around Detroit, it is 313 Day, named after Detroit’s famous 3-1-3 area code.
313 Day was created to celebrate Detroit’s history, culture, and successes. The Motor City is absolutely one of my favorite places for photo sessions.
These are some of my favorite Detroit photography locations!
Campus Martius#
In the heart of Downtown Detroit, Campus Martius Park is an incredible gathering place with events, movies, and even ice skating. It is also the location for Detroit’s annual Christmas tree.

Belle Isle Park is a 985-acre park located in the Detroit River. It is incredibly rich with natural beauty and offers spectacular views of Detroit to the North and Canada to the south.
The Whitney Detroit#
The Whitney is an iconic mansion named after lumber baron, David Whitney. It is now a restaurant offering upscale New American cuisine.

Saint Andrew’s Hall#
Saint Andrew’s Hall is a concert venue located in downtown Detroit. It was originally the meeting place for the Saint Andrew’s Society of Detroit, but it is now host to many live music acts and DJs each year. It is possibly best known for being one of the first stages where Eminem performed.

The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant is a former Ford automobile factory built in 1904. It is now dedicated to the preservation of the birthplace of the Model T.

The Belt#
The Belt is an alley in downtown Detroit named for its physical orientation in a former downtown garment district. It is now home to numerous murals and installations by local, national, and international artists.
Detroit Riverwalk#
The Detroit Riverwalk stretches out for three and a half miles along the Detroit River. The heart of the Riverwalk stretches from the Joe Louis Arena to Gabriel Richard Park, but it being expanded in both directions.

There are too many famous buildings to name. The Renaissance Center is likely the most recognizable.

The Eastern Market area is named for the 19th-century market that operated here. It features vendors selling everything from produce to tacos every Saturday. Sundays are often packed with local jewelers and artisans.

The DIA#
The Detroit Institute of Arts, located in Midtown Detroit, Michigan, has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States. With over 100 galleries, it covers 658,000 square feet and remains one of the top six art galleries in the nation with over 100 galleries and 65,000 works.
