A lot of families start planning senior pictures thinking Ann Arbor is the obvious choice.
And it makes sense. There are great locations there. But what most people don’t realize until they’re in the middle of it is how busy those spots can get. Crowds, limited parking, and constantly working around other people in the background.
Chloe’s session took a different approach, and it’s one more families around Ann Arbor should seriously consider.
She’s a senior at Dexter High School, and we built her session around a mix of natural and lifestyle locations right in Dexter. Close to Ann Arbor, but without all the chaos that can come with it.
We started at Hudson Mills Metropark, and this is where everything felt easy right away. The combination of water, trees, and open space gave us a ton of variety without needing to overthink anything. Some of the best moments came from just slowing things down. Sitting by the water, walking through the trails, and letting things happen naturally instead of forcing poses.
That kind of environment makes a huge difference, especially for seniors who don’t want their session to feel stiff or overly posed. It gives them room to relax, which always shows in the final images.
After that, we headed into downtown Dexter, and the entire vibe shifted in the best way. The color, texture, and small-town feel added a completely different look to Chloe’s gallery. Her outfit choices worked perfectly here too, bringing in a little more personality and energy compared to the softer, natural setting at the park.
We mixed in some walking shots, more candid moments, and a few tighter portraits that really pulled everything together. That combination of nature and downtown gives you a full, well-rounded gallery without needing to bounce all over metro Detroit.
Sessions like this are a great fit for families who want variety but don’t want the stress of crowded locations. You still get everything you’re looking for. Natural light, great backgrounds, and a mix of styles that feel true to your senior.
The biggest difference is the experience. It’s more relaxed, more personal, and honestly just more enjoyable for everyone involved.
