When Charlotte’s mom started planning her senior session, one thing was clear from the beginning: she wanted plenty of nature.
Charlotte is a senior at Stevenson High School in Livonia, and her family booked my three-hour Magna Cum Laude a la carte session package. We headed to Ann Arbor for the morning golden hour, which gave us soft light, glowing trees, and that warm early fall feel that works so well for senior portraits.
For parents planning Livonia senior pictures, this is a good example of why location variety can make such a difference.
Starting With Nature and Morning Golden Hour
We began the session outdoors, surrounded by trees, tall grasses, and warm morning light.
Charlotte’s outfits worked beautifully with the setting, especially the rich fall colors. The low sun coming through the trees gave us that golden glow without making the images feel overly posed or formal.
Her mom really wanted the outdoor portion to be a major part of the session, so we made sure to give it plenty of time rather than treating it like a quick stop.
Then we changed directions completely.
A Little Graffiti, Downtown Ann Arbor, and an Unexpected Stop
After the nature portion, we headed into downtown Ann Arbor for a completely different look.
Nickels Arcade gave us classic architecture and a polished backdrop for Charlotte’s red dress. From there, we worked in some colorful graffiti and alleyways, which added a much bolder feel to the session.
Then something happened that wasn’t on the original plan … we spotted a record store that was just about to open. Charlotte loves music and vinyl, so there really wasn’t much debate with this one. We did what any reasonable people would do and went inside for a portion of her session.
Those spontaneous moments are exactly why I like leaving a little flexibility in senior sessions. Sometimes the best location is the one nobody planned ahead of time.
Senior Pictures That Leave Room for Personality
Charlotte’s session moved from glowing woods to downtown architecture, graffiti, and rows of vinyl records, all within three hours.
That kind of variety is what makes a senior session feel personal.
If you’re planning Livonia senior pictures for a Stevenson High School senior, you don’t need to choose between nature, city, or something completely different. We can build a session around what your senior actually likes, and leave enough room for a few surprises along the way.
