Musical theatre headshots sessions are definitely one of my favorite types of headshot sessions! There’s no douby anout it! You see, musical theatre actors have such an easy time in front of a camera that great images are practically guaranteed!
In case you weren’t already aware, some of the best musical theatre talent is right here in Detroit!
I recently had the opportunity to work with Lauren for new a new headshot. She is a member of the Motor City Cabaret, an amazing musical theatre outreach program by the theatre students at Wayne State University. Motor City Cabaret’s goal is to create an appreciation and awareness for musical theatre. This year, they have a fantastic revue celebrating musicals adapted from short stories, fairy tales and novels entitled, “Off the Page“. Do yourself a favor and find a performance of this great show!

Break a leg, Lauren!
Musical Theatre Headshots Tip: Personality. Personality. Personality. Your headshot and character storyboard must capture your personality and the person behind the eyes. The image must speak to the viewer and ooze with who you are. This is especially true for stage and musical theatre actors. Create a character storyboard to show the “characters” within you!
I got the opportunity to work with Paul after he reached out to my touring musical theatre company. I am so so glad I took that opportunity. He has an incredible eye for capturing people as they truly are (even when they strike an abnormal pose). I’m a huge fan of the work he did for me.
Lauren A.
Lauren was kind enough to provide some additional feedback from her session, too! (Thanks Lauren!) …
Would you recommend Paul Manoian Photography to friends and family?
Yes. He was patient and is very good at his craft. I can’t believe how much he put up with from my friends and I, but he was so patient with us the whole time.
Where was your session held? What did you like about it?
In the back studio, for headshots. It felt very professional.
What was your favorite part of your photo session?
Seeing the photos as we were going along. I haven’t had a photographer show me their work as we’re in session, and it helped me tell him how I liked looking in pictures, as well as seeing what looks best in the professional eye.
Any advice to other people that may be considering booking a session?
Just do it. It’s worth it.
