When Evan’s family began planning his graduation photo session, they knew they wanted Detroit to be part of the story. Evan is a senior at Warren Woods Tower High School in Warren, Michigan, and his family wanted a session that blended classic senior pictures with the places and interests that hold special meaning for him.

We started at Belle Isle, with the Detroit skyline in the background, an unmistakable setting for senior pictures in this city. Evan also brought his Warren Woods Tower letterman jacket, which provided the perfect opportunity to connect his roots to the city chosen specifically for the shoot.

Baseball had to be included. Rather than just incorporating a bat, we photographed Evan on the baseball field in his “Titans” uniform, using the dugout and the bleachers as part of the backdrop. These images retain the essence of a traditional graduation portrait while capturing a part of his high school years that deserves to be remembered.

Afterward, we headed to downtown Detroit, where the style shifted completely. Since it was early in the morning, we were able to work in the heart of the city without the crowds, and Evan’s jacket fit perfectly with Detroit’s urban architecture. We blended these clean, urban scenes with colorful graffiti, brick-lined alleyways, and a few more relaxed, casual portraits.

One of the things I enjoy most about planning Warren senior pictures in Detroit is the incredible variety we can achieve while maintaining a cohesive feel. In a single session, we can move from a baseball field to a panoramic view of the city, and then head into the downtown streets and alleyways filled with urban art. Each location contributes something unique, yet everything remains part of a single, unified story. Naturally, when baseball plays a major role in someone’s life, there is no better backdrop in Detroit than Comerica Park. It also goes to show that senior pictures don’t have to be confined to a single style or type of setting.

That, in fact, is the key: a senior pictures photo session doesn’t have to look just like everyone else’s even if everyone attends the same school.
