One of the biggest challenges parents face when planning senior pictures is figuring out where to even start.
Do you choose a location first? A style? Something trendy? Something classic?
Sierra’s session is a great example of what happens when you flip that process around.
Instead of starting with a location, we started with them.
They’re a senior at Arts Academy In The Woods, and came into the session with a clear sense of style. Confident, expressive, and a little outside the box. That gave us a direction right away, and from there, we built a session that matched it.
An Ann Arbor senior pictures session ended up being the perfect fit because it gave us the flexibility to create two completely different looks without forcing anything.
We spent part of the session at the University of Michigan Law Quad and this is where that architectural side really came through. The stonework, archways, and overall atmosphere added a dramatic, almost cinematic feel to her photos. It’s a location that naturally elevates a session, especially for seniors who want something a little more bold and unique.
From there, we shifted into a more natural setting, and the tone changed in the best way. Surrounded by trees, water, and softer light, the images from Nichols Arboretum felt more relaxed and grounded. That contrast is what made the session work so well.
You’re not looking at the same type of photo over and over again. You’re seeing different sides of the same person, all within one session.
Sierra made that easy. They were comfortable in front of the camera, open to trying different ideas, and really leaned into the experience. This is exactly what personalized senior pictures are supposed to look like.
Not a one-size-fits-all session. Not a checklist of poses. But something that actually reflects who your senior is right now.
For parents, that’s the difference. When a session is built around your senior’s personality, everything else falls into place. The locations make sense. The styling works. And the final images feel authentic instead of forced.
Sierra’s session is a perfect example of how combining locations in Ann Arbor can create a gallery that feels both dynamic and personal, without ever losing focus on what matters most.
If you’re starting to plan senior pictures and want something that goes beyond the typical approach, this is exactly the kind of experience we can create together.
