When Jake and his mom started planning his senior pictures, they already had a pretty clear vision. They didn’t want to leave Chelsea to find interesting locations. They wanted the session to celebrate the town that’s been home throughout high school.
That made planning easy.
One request jumped to the top of the list right away. Jake absolutely loves his Honda Civic Type R, so there was no question it needed to be part of the session. Rather than treating it like just another prop, we built the beginning of the morning around it.
We met before sunrise while downtown Chelsea was still quiet. The timing couldn’t have worked better. The streets were empty, the sky still had that deep blue glow before the sun came up, and the new JD’s Stage Bistro marquee lit up the block. Since Jeff Daniels’ new restaurant hasn’t even opened yet, it made for a backdrop that’s about as unique as you can get. Those images instantly became some of my favorites from the day.
From there, we settled into what the Signature Experience is all about.
Because we had three hours together, there was no rush to move from one place to the next. Jake changed outfits, we wandered through downtown, stopped by the Chelsea Clocktower, found a few brick walls and murals that added a different look, and even headed over to the railroad tracks near the Jiffy Mix plant. Every location gave us something completely different without ever leaving Chelsea.
Of course, we couldn’t skip Chelsea High School.
Soccer has been a big part of Jake’s high school experience, so we wrapped up that portion of the session on the field with a few action shots. I always encourage seniors to include something that’s genuinely part of their lives because those are often the photographs that mean the most years from now.
One thing I really appreciated about this session was how much thought Jake and his mom put into it beforehand. They had ideas, I had ideas, and together we built a session that feels like Jake, not something copied from someone else’s Pinterest board.
That’s exactly how I think senior pictures should work.
If you’re looking for Chelsea senior pictures, you don’t have to drive to Ann Arbor or Detroit to create something memorable. Chelsea has plenty of character all on its own, especially when we build a session around the places and interests that matter most to your senior.
I’m excited to share more from Jake’s session soon. This is only the beginning.

I Highly Recommend Paul
Paul wanted my son’s senior pictures to capture the essence of who he is as a person. To me, I feel like that is the most important thing for a photo session. I appreciated the advanced phone call from Paul prior to the session to find out more about my son and what my son wanted out of the photo shoot. It was also very helpful to have the downloads from Paul’s website regarding tips and tricks for high school senior photos. Paul had a lot of patience during the session, as both my son and I forgot a few items we wanted to use at the photo session. Paul is very kind and did not rush through the session. If Paul did not get the shots as a photographer that he was looking for, he made sure to take more photos until he was satisfied with them. He also showed us the photos from his camera to make sure the pictures were what WE were looking for, too. I highly recommend Paul for any and all photography needs you may have.
