As we all know, every individual is just that: an individual. We all have different likes, dislikes, personalities, management styles, and et cetera. That is why, when a model sets off to work with someone new, they should prepare themselves. Here are my top 3 tips for models working with a new photographer:
1. Optimism
2. A state of Tabula Rasa
3. Confidence
Top Model Tip #1: Optimism. Optimism is the ability to look at a situation in a way that you expect nothing but a good, creative and compelling experience. It has been scientifically proven that if you approach a situation with an optimistic eye, then positive results will, more than likely, be yielded. So, when you go to meet a new photographer and you’re not sure what to expect, expect the best and that is what you will have a greater chance of receiving.
Top Model Tip #2: Tabula Rasa. Aristotle coined the term “Tabula Rasa” to refer to a “blank slate.” In this case, Tabula Rasa is the state of clearing the table, starting a fresh piece of paper and ridding any previous feelings or hearsay in regards to the photographer you are heading out to work with. As stated above, everyone is different, which means we all have our own opinions in regards to people: some may hate him while others may love him. That is why, when you go to work with someone new , I implore you to wash your memory of anything you may have heard about him or her and to form your own opinions. Walking into a shoot with assumptions about them will only lead to disappointment. So, just start with blank slate and build your own opinion from there.
Top Model Tip #3: Confidence. Confidence is the final and key tip that you need when working with a photographer. Another scientific fact (I love me some facts), is that people are naturally attracted to confidence. If you walk into the shoot filled with doubt and negative energy, it will show in your photographs and it will affect your ability to bond with him or her. Instead, if you walk in smiling, positive and clear headed, you are bound to make a smashing first impression. Just remember, they would not have agreed or offered to shoot you if they thought you could not do it. Just be the best you you can be, and you will be fine.
Best of luck to you, loves.
