Lincoln High School Senior Pictures Photographer

There are so many fantastic locations for senior photos in Southeast Michigan, and Ann Arbor always ranks high on that list. For Brailyn’s session, we were able to combine two completely different styles without spending the day driving all over town. Brailyn is a senior at Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti, and we split her session between the Nichols Arboretum and the University of Michigan’s Law Quad.

That combination gave us a little bit of everything. We had the trees, trails, and greenery of the Arboretum, and then we completely shifted the vibe with the stone architecture and arches of the Law Quad. I love sessions like this because the final gallery doesn’t feel like the same photo taken 50 different ways.

We started at the Nichols Arboretum, one of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor when someone is looking for a natural setting. There is plenty of space to explore, and I’m always on the lookout for nooks with interesting light, backgrounds, and small areas that one might easily overlook.

Brailyn started out in jeans and a hot pink blouse, which looked fantastic against the summer greenery. Later, she changed into a light floral dress for a softer look. Same general location, but a totally different atmosphere. That’s why I always encourage students to think about variety when choosing their outfits. You don’t need to go to five different locations to get a varied look for your session.

Next, we headed to the University of Michigan Law Quad. If the Nichols Arboretum stands out for its nature, the Law Quad is practically the opposite. The massive stone arches, antique doorways, and impressive architecture provided a completely different backdrop for the second half of Brailyn’s session.

Her green dress was an excellent choice for this location. It popped beautifully against the stone and allowed us to create everything from close-up portraits to wider shots that really showcased the scale of the architecture. Some of my favorite photos from the session came about simply by letting Brailyn walk through the arches, rather than making every shot look posed.

Brailyn’s session is a great example of why you don’t have to choose just one style for your graduation photos. Want a forest and wildflowers? Great. Want striking architecture five minutes later? We can do that, too.
