When Paige and her family began planning her senior portrait session, they knew they wanted more variety than just a local park or a single backdrop. As a senior at Walled Lake Central High School, Paige found that Detroit offered exactly what was needed to create a session that felt personal, colorful, and unique from start to finish.

For parents planning senior pictures sessions for students at Walled Lake Central, this is a perfect example of why your location doesn’t have to be close to home. Paige’s session took us through a variety of settings across Detroit, adding depth to her gallery while remaining true to her personal style.

We began with a softer, more natural approach around the greenhouse and gardens. Her floral dress, the surrounding greenery, and the glass architecture created an atmosphere completely distinct from the rest of the shoot resulting in an elegant, relaxed look before we headed into the more urban side of Detroit.

Next, we incorporated colorful graffiti and downtown city streets. Paige’s burgundy top and reddish hair stood out beautifully against the street art, brickwork, and urban textures. These backdrops added extra personality to the session, allowing for portraits that were less conventional and much more authentic to who she is.

We also captured shots near Michigan Central and various spots downtown, where the architecture provided a more striking, dramatic feel. One of the things I love most about senior sessions in Detroit is how quickly the vibe can shift because you can transition from a soft, elegant aesthetic to something bold and modern without spending the entire session traveling between locations.

Belle Isle offered yet another perspective, featuring open spaces, autumn colors, water, and the Detroit skyline as a backdrop. This contrast is precisely why I encourage families to look beyond the obvious when choosing a location. A senior pictures session can reflect different facets of a student, rather than limiting everything to a single visual concept.

If you are planning senior pictures for a student from Walled Lake Central, you don’t have to limit yourself to Walled Lake or Commerce Township. Detroit is a fantastic option if you’re looking to combine architecture, nature, color, and the energy of the city all in one session.
