As a Metro Detroit dance photographer, I have the opportunity to work with a lot of aspiring dancers as they build out their dance audition portfolios. Some of my favorites sessions have been with ballerinas in the studio.
Most recently, I have been enjoying the recent shoots I have been doing for individual dancers in the Metro Detroit area and am looking forward to more dance and movement shoots this summer!
For Claire’s shoot, we kept the lighting very simple. We uses a single Elinchrom soft box for all of the shots with her wearing the black and white dress and Converse shoes and only used 2 lights for the others. By keeping the lighting simple for this dancer photo session, we were able to capture some very beautiful shots with very dramatic lighting. I absolutely love these images and it was very difficult to only select a few for this blog post. Which one is your favorite?
If you are just starting out building a dance audition portfolio, you should have 3 basic shots at a minimum: a professional head shot, a dance shot in leotard and tights and a dance shot in costume. The color of the leotard does not matter – the quality of the look of the dancer in the photo is what is important. A nice presentation of the portfolio is always a good idea
If you are a professional or aspiring dancer in Metro Detroit and looking for a photographer to help build out your dance audition portfolio, I would love to have the opportunity to work with you. Please contact me online or call 313-883-9500 for additional information.
