I love doing kids portraits sessions with fall colors every year. It’s a refreshing change from the summer heat and, if it is time just right, the fall colors are certainly a welcomed added bonus!

I recently had the opportunity to do another portrait session in Birmingham, MI and the time of day we picked was stunning. It really allowed the sun to be low enough in the sky for the sunlight to beam underneath the low branches and surround everything with a beautiful glow. I selected some of my favorites from the session and included them below. Which on is your favorite?

Of course, is it impossible to accurately predict with the Fall colors will peak for portrait session. There are too many factors. The air temperature, the amount of rain during the summer months and even the mineral content of the soil can drastically impact the colors. To make matters worse, one rain or wind storm can blow them to the ground overnight.

If are interested in scheduling a session for your kids or family with all of the beautiful fall colors, it is very important you book it as early in the year as possible. Once the colors are gone, they are GONE and there are always limited openings during the peak color season. You can’t wait until the colors actually arrive since the schedule is almost guaranteed to be booked solid by then!
